Welcome to Intuition Author Services! I am a professionally trained content and line editor and author and my job is to make sure what you publish is the best version of your manuscript possible. I primarily work with independent authors, but I also have legal deposition, transcription, web content, and text book editing experience. Whatever your project, rest assured I will make sure it’s done right the first time.

We require half of the service fee up front and half when you sign off on your edits before you receive your Clean Copy. The first $100 of your fee is considered a non-refundable deposit and will not be returned if you cancel services after booking, even if it is before the edits begin.


Here are some of the services we offer:


Content editing: 1 cent per word.


Content editing is a fairly in-depth process. Some of the things we flag are:


Plot holes

Continuity errors

Fact-check errors

Awkward phrases

Sentence structure issues

Repetitive words or sentences

Character inconsistencies (Johnny is not a smoker but suddenly has a cigarette without explanation on page 255)


We also prune sentences to omit unnecessary words, or delete unnecessary sentences from paragraphs. We get a good sense of the author’s voice and try to preserve that as much as possible. We do not do major rewrites and in the rare case we feel the manuscript needs more than a paragraph of major rewriting, we will send it back to you with those suggestions and go from there.


Line editing: .007 cents per word.


Line editing is included each time you ask for content editing. Some of the things we flag are:


Grammar errors

Spelling errors

Improper punctuation

Improper word usage/context

Capitalization errors

Repetitive words or sentences


Both of these are followed by a Final Proofread, and then your manuscript will be returned to you in your Edit Copy. We will discuss the changes and if you choose to accept them, the editing process is finished. If you chose formatting, you will then receive a Clean Copy in each of the formats you chose.


Proofreading: .003 per word


Proofreading is included with a content and/or line editing package, but can also be a stand-alone service if you have a manuscript that has been edited by someone other than Intuition Author Services. You will receive an Edit Copy of your manuscript with a simple mark up of any errors. This is a line edit only. However, if I find more than five typographical errors (the gold standard for our service is less than three) or a major content error, I will send your manuscript back to you with a recommendation for line or content editing.


Formatting: $125 for single format, $175 for double format


I offer very basic formatting in Microsoft Word, in .doc or .docx form, for either e-book or a paperback publishing service such as CreateSpace. I can also send your manuscript in pdf form if requested. You can choose a True Type or Open Type font (note: Open Type fonts may not translate to paperback or Kindle correctly) and 10, 11, or 12 point font size is the standard. Times New Roman, Courier New, or Calibri are the most widely accepted font types, and I will typically use those, but a special font can be applied to chapter headings or drop caps. If you have a special font in mind that I do not own, you are responsible for the cost of the font. Page numbers will usually be in the middle bottom of the page, or can be in the top right or left corner as well, and author’s name and/or book title can be added to the top even or odd pages. Margins may vary based on the length of the book, and if you have requested paperback formatting, I will discuss those with you. If you wish to use images in your book, this may incur an additional cost. I apologize, but I do not do picture books or cookbooks at this time.


Ala Carte Services


If you have a website, page, blog, letter, school paper, presentation, or some other special project that needs a fresh eye, Intuition Author Services is happy to help! My fees for ala carte services and manuscripts under 40,000 words are a flat $24.50 per hour with a one hour minimum. For example, a content and line edit with proofreading and formatting for a short manuscript generally takes about 20-25 hours. I will let you know how long I expect the project to take when I give you a quote.
