FAQ's

What should I do before I send you my manuscript?

Just as publishers have guidelines, we at Intuition Author Services have guidelines as well. Please take the following steps before sending us your manuscript. It will make things go much more smoothly. If you fail to follow these guidelines, your manuscript may be sent back to you and you could lose your time slot and deposit.

•    Beta reading. Have a few readers go through your manuscript and then make those changes accordingly. You can find good beta readers on forums or reader sites such as Goodreads. Please be aware, a legitimate beta reader will not charge you to read your book.

•    Use the spell/grammar check. Please. Almost all word processing software has the ability to do this with the touch of a button, and it takes only a couple of minutes. If it asks you to decide on a particular word/usage, and you’re not sure, leave that particular word “as is” and resume the spell/grammar check.

•    Basic Format. Your manuscript needs to be in Microsoft Word document form, Times New Roman 12 Point font, single or 1.5 spaced, with only ONE space after each punctuation mark.

Do I need an editor?

The short answer is yes. Many people think they can do this work themselves, but the truth is, you can’t see what you can’t see. Readers will stop reading, complain on social media, and/or decide you are unprofessional if they see typos and inconsistencies. If you want to be a professional author, treat your work with the respect it deserves. It’s your blood, sweat, tears, and time away from your family, so invest in it! Make it count!

Will this be expensive?

I can’t stress enough that if you care about your work, you need to invest in it. That being said, editing can be an expensive process. What you’re paying for, however, is priceless. Your editor will dedicate sometimes weeks of their life to making your book the best it can be. Finding a good editor who respects your artistic vision, and who you can go back to again and again, is invaluable. We’re talking about the second most important process after actually writing the book. How much is peace of mind worth to you?

With Intuition Author services, you’ll know up front what your cost will be and I will honor that quote. If I feel like your manuscript will need extensive editing, I will send your manuscript back to you and let you know more work needs to be done on it. We can work together on this issue and it will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Do you offer a sample edit?

Yes. Up to five pages at no cost. It’s an excellent way to see if we “mesh” well.

What if I don’t like your suggestions?

You have the final word on all edits, but rest assured I have been in this business for many years and am an author myself, so I understand on all levels what works and what doesn’t. I will not edit your manuscript from a “marketable” stand point, but instead the whole picture of what your work represents in and of itself. If you disagree with my edits to the point of withdrawing from our services, you will forfeit your deposit, because I’ve already put in the time. Let’s work together to make your book great!

What is the editing process?

In a typical case, content editing comes first (see below for explanation) and then line editing. There is a Final Proofread, and then your manuscript is sent back to you. You will receive an Edit Copy (which will show mark ups and corrections). Once you sign off on the edits and corrections, formatting can begin. When formatting is finished, you will receive a Clean Copy (without the mark ups and edits) in the shiny new formats of your choice. If you did not choose formatting, you will only receive an Edit Copy. You will still need to sign off on the edits.

Returning authors can choose to have this process expedited by requesting their Edit Copy and Clean Copy at the same time, with the expectation that they will inherently accept the final product.

We STRONGLY suggest you read through your manuscript when we send it back to you to make sure you are happy with it. Once you sign off on edits and receive your Clean Copy, the project is considered finished and may incur additional costs if you want to change something.

What are your turnaround times? How long will this whole process take?

Typically a content/line edit for about 65,000 words takes approximately 7 business days, a line edit or proofread 3-5 days, and formatting 1-2 days. Those times vary with longer manuscripts or manuscripts that need heavy editing, and can also vary depending on how long it takes you to accept the edits and return the manuscript for formatting. If you have a deadline or release date, please let me know what that is so I can get your manuscript back to you on time. It’s a good idea to contact me at least a month in advance of your release date to ensure we have enough time to devote to your work and in case of unforeseen circumstances.

What are your prices?
